The dream of the hermit father Aba Yohannes Tesfamariam from his childhood was to serve God and to see the sick healed, the sinners repent, the poor in need to be blessed, the barren to have child. So when he was still a child he left the world and went to monastery. in his ascetic life, serving the monastic Fathers with his whole heart, he prayed earnestly to God, asking to establish a monastery, with weeping, and unceasing prayer. By God’s will, he entered the empty desert in 2002 and founded Wenkeshete Monastery.
The Miraculous Monastery
As soon as Aba Yohannes entered the empty desert in 1994, he blessed the mountain with the scepter of the holy cross in the name of the Trinity. Since then, all human beings are being cured of any disease like HIV aids, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure … and are being freed from Satan’s bondage, magic, sorcery, the poor are being blessed, and the infertile are giving birth. Likewise, those who had been living in sin repented of their former futile life through the teachings of our Father.
Our church does not beg but gives help
The word of our father Abba Yohannes when he entered the empty desert alone to establish the monastery was ‘’Our church does not beg but gives help’’. Therefore, our father does not ask for any money or help from the people. There is no charge for any service which you get from the monastery. Everyone came freely, and after he got his desire goes back to his home with indescribable joy.
